Comedy Suitcase is a Twin Cities based theatrical production company dedicated to creating live comedy for all ages. Founded in 2010 by Joshua English Scrimshaw and Levi Weinhagen, Comedy Suitcase strives to bridge the gap between imaginative theater for children and sophisticated comedy for adults. In the words of Groucho Marx: "A child of five could understand this. Fetch me a child of five!"
Joshua English Scrimshaw is a Twin Cities based actor, writer and producer and co-founder of the all-ages theater company Comedy Suitcase. He has been called "a clever and inventive voice in Twin Cities comedy theater" by The Star Tribune, and "a modern day Buster Keaton" by mnartists.org.
Joshua is also the co-founder of English Scrimshaw Theatrical Novelties with his wife Adrienne English. English Scrimshaw Theatrical Novelties blends dance and comedy to create original works of physical theater. City Pages named English Scrimshaw Theatrical Novelties’ 2002 production Shut Your Joke Hole, one of the top ten local theater productions of the year and their recent production at the Minnesota Fringe Festival, To Mars With Tesla or The Interplanetary Machinations of Evil Thomas Edison, was the top selling show in its venue.
In addition to producing his own shows, Joshua has worked with a wide variety of Twin Cities' theater companies including Bedlam Theater, John Munger's Third Rabbit Dance Ensemble, Theater in the Round, Actors Theater of Minnesota, Off Leash Area, Cheap Theater, and Hardcover Theater. Joshua made his television writing debut on the new syndicated educational sketch show M@d About. His 2011 collaboration with Collision Pictures, The Good Friend, earned six awards at the Twin Cities 48 Hour Film Festival and a Jury award at the South Dakota Film Festival.
Levi Weinhagen is the co-founder of the Twin Cities based all-ages theater company Comedy Suitcase.
